Hi,
Can sks help me with a knotty problem? My maternal grandmother's mother was
a Brazenell from Dudley in Worcs. At first, it appeared that she was one of
eleven children but it turned out they were two families. I can place
everyone except Elizabeth. The breakdown of the two families is as follows:
Edward BRAZENELL married Mary MILLS at Kingswinford, Staffs., on 24 December
1832. Their children were:
George BRAZENELL, Baptized: 25 August 1833.
Joseph BRAZENELL, Baptized: 22 May 1836.
Jane BRAZENELL, Born: 30 June1837.
Mary Ann BRAZENELL, Born: 7 May 1839.
Susannah BRAZENELL, Born: 30 August 1841.
This family emigrated to America sometime between 1841 and 1850.
Edward BRAZENELL married Mary SHERLOCK at Sedgley, Staffs., on 19 July 1841.
Their children are as follows:
Eliza BRAZENELL, Born: March 1845.
Joseph BRAZENELL, Born: 17 March 1847.
Sarah BRAZENELL, Born: 24 January 1849.
Fanny BRAZENELL, Born: 21 April 1851.
Hannah BRAZENELL, Born: between 1853 and 1859.
This becomes complicated when one realizes that Kingswinford and Sedgley are
close to Dudley and the children of both families appear to have been born
there and baptized at St Thomas, Dudley. Both families may have known each
other.
Elizabeth BRAZENELL was born and died in the December quarter of 1842,
according to FreeBMD.
Here we come to the problem - whose child was she?
TIA, Russell.

No problem at all. Her Birth Certificate will tell you both her
father's name and her mother's maiden name. As you know the names of
each Edward's wives it will be obvious which family she belongs to.
